With Foxtrot’s first successful venture into flat racing producing 3 winners and seven placed horses from 14 runners, a 21% strike-rate, we have decided to extend the concept. We have bought two colts and one filly with a 2yo campaign in mind.
Foxtrot Racing’s concept is to blend the skills of partnership manager, bloodstock agent and trainer. Once again our stock has been purchased by David Redvers, one of the UK’s top bloodstock agents. This includes a Royal Applause colt bought for £30,000 along with a Namid colt bought for £15,000 at the Doncaster St Leger Yearling sale in August. To make up the portfolio David purchased a Pearl of Love filly at the Goffs Sportmans sale for IR 6,000.
Our horse will once again be trained at by Peter Winkworth at Robins Farm racing stables, with the day to day assistance of Anton Pearson.
Peter has had a spectacular year with 26 winners (12% strike-rate) amassing £140,000 for his owners. 31 individual horses have collected prize-money (as have approx. 50% of his runners). Most interestingly a £1 level win stake on each runner would have yielded a profit of £123, the highest of any top 100 Flat trainer in Great Britain.
Both colts are qualified for the £300,000 Doncaster sales race and preliminary entries will be made. Our horses will be campaigned with a 2yo career in mind and with a view to end sale value. However the Committee will review in September 2009 to establish whether any of the horses are worth retaining as 3yo’s. We are selling 15 shares at £10,595 each (covering all capital and running costs until 31 st October 2009).
FOXTROT DELTA (Ch. colt. Namid ex Tarziyana)
Bought at the Doncaster St. Leger Sale, a sale recognised for producing precocious 2 year old types, this colt is no exception. He is a strong butty yearling that looks certain to make an impact during the second half of the season, given his slightly late birth date.
From the very good Aga Khan family, out of a winning mare with a 100% winners to runners ratio. Her progeny include the 106 rated Taraza who was placed 2 nd in the Trigo Stakes (L) at Leopardstown.
He is by Namid, (Gr 1 Prix De L’Abbaye winner), was an exceptional 2 year old. He won the Gr3 Anglesey Stakes (Curragh) by 3 ½ lengths on his second start. As a sire he is a great source of speed. His progeny include numerous sharp juvenile winners including Blue Dakota (Royal Ascot Norfolk Stakes Gr3), Curtail (Roseberry Stakes Listed), July stakes Gr2 runner up Northern Empire and Listed winners Flash McGahon (Tipperary Stakes) and Janina (Marygate Stakes) and, even just recently, the Redcar 2 Year Old Trophy (6 furlongs) winner Total Gallery.
FOXTROT ECHO (Bay filly. Pearl Of Love ex Charnock Bates One)
This filly is the first foal out of a winning Desert Sun mare. She has a good step and looks a strong, racy type. Almost masculine, she looks the perfect sort to run right from the start of the season.
Her second dam, Fleetwood Fancy, was a very sharp filly, winning at 2 and being twice Listed placed in England before travelling to America where she won twice at 3. She has produced 9 winners including Al Fahda (3 rd in the Gr3 Prestige Stakes at 2. Al Fahda was also the dam of Southern Africa, who raced in USA winning the Gr3 Star Derby at Lone Star Park).
This filly is from the first crop of new stallion Pearl Of Love, a Gr1 winning 2 year old. Prior to his Gr1 win, he also put up a scintillating performance when winning the Gr2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh by 3 ½ lengths. As yet he is very much an unknown quantity regarding his ability as a sire, but his first crop were a very impressive bunch of well made, strong yearlings that look sure to make an impact next season having been bought by many of the right people.
FOXTROT FOXTROT (Bay colt. Royal Applause ex Darmagi)
Purchased from the Doncaster St. Leger Sale, this colt is an exceptional mover and looks a tremendously athletic colt with a future.
Despite not winning, his dam was placed 5 times at two and three years and had a Racing Post Rating of 94. Her Dr Fong 2yo has run towards the end of the season and was placed on his second start.
This colt is by Royal Applause, a sire famous for producing high class speedy 2 year olds. Himself a Gr1 winner at 2 years ( Middle Park Stakes), he also won the Gr2 Gimcrack Stakes over 6furlongs. At four years he won the Gr1 Haydock Park Sprint Cup on his last British outing before running a creditable 3 rd in the Gr1 Prix De L’Abbaye at Longchamp. His top progeny include Gr2 Diadem Stakes winner and Champion first season sire Acclamation, multiple Group winner Majestic Missile, who has also retired to stud, and Gr2 winner Lovelace to name but a few. He was well represented this year by Finjaan, Gr3 Molecomb Stakes winner who also ran 3 rd in the Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes. Our colt looks a prime example of how Royal Applause stamps his stock with precocious speed.
Training Update (03.05.09):
All three horses looked in good spirits on Friday when paraded at the partnership stable visit. It is also good to note that the stable last week produced its first 2yo winner and also had a 2nd at Goodwood yesterday.
Foxtrot Foxtrot continues to surprise in his rate of development. Although his pedigree suggests that he would take time to be ready for a race, he does everything asked of him and is now physically nearing a debut. He will need to start off over 6f and so we will wait until the 6f races for 2yo's start within the racing calendar.
Foxtrot Delta has also come on in the last few weeks and has muscled up really well. He is fit enough for a race but as he was a late foal (12th May) we will give him another three weeks' work to have him mentally ready for the racecourse.
Foxtrot Echo is still quite burly and will need another month's conditioning before she starts doing some faster work. She has grown a little physically over the Spring but as yet she has not shown a great deal in her work. It is hoped that she may show more ability given the time to develop.
